A Little Help From My Friends

I know where I was when 9/11 happened. I remember exactly where I was sitting when the OJ verdict was read. Yesterday, something so significant took place in my life that I will never forget where I was when it happened.

I met Dr. Howard Farran!

Move over Beatlemania!

Those of you who know me, understand how much I have studied and admired him for years. In fact, I’ve been a fan for so long that I still have his 30 Day MBA course on VHS tapes!

I knew that I was in for a treat by attending his course in Cleveland, Ohio, and it definitely did not disappoint! I’ve been to a zillion other courses in the past, and by far Dr. Farran had the highest energy and passion of any of the presenters I’ve EVER seen.  He had our entire staff laughing and  on the edge of our seats. He really knows how to captivate an audience and if you haven’t seen him-then you must do so soon!

You know how it’s important to let your patients leave your office with a positive feeling?  Well, Dr. Farran’s course was the same way. I left with a renewed energy and a stronger passion than when I walked into the door. I consider that a huge success and I cannot WAIT to find out what my staff took away from it when we chat about it on Monday.

Not only did I get a chance to take his course, but I also went to dinner with him last night! It was like breaking bread with John Lennon! We got to share ideas, tell stories, and crack some jokes.

You know what else I took away from my day with Dr. Farran? He has a strong belief in a sharing community. That’s what Dentaltown.com and Dentaltown Magazine are all about. He’s right when he says that “No Dentist Will Ever Have to Practice Solo Again”, and I think that the same should ring true for all the Front Desk, Assistants, Hygienists, Consultants, and everyone else who contributes to a practice.

I, like Dr. Farran, believe in the Golden Rule, and I want to build the Next Step Dental Resource brand as one that welcomes people who are TRULY interested in my services and products and who are respectful to others and their ideas. I’ve had some nice chats recently with my friends Mary Beth Bajornas (from Dental Support Specialties) and Nomi Waters (Nomiwaters.com) who agree that it’s high time that we stick together for the greater good of the offices and all fight the good fight together.

I want to hear respectful comments from you whether you agree with me or not. I do not and will NEVER tolerate rudeness, so please don’t bring that into my site!

Dr. Farran changed my life years ago, and my day with him yesterday changed my life a little more. I only hope that in even the smallest way I can change your life as well.
